I spent all day thinking about things and talking out loud to myself.
got some funny looks from strangers.
continuing the trend at home now.
except I’m the one giving myself funny looks.

my nostalgia for Midwestern winters reached a new low this morning when a friend’s facebook status reminded me of the perils of ice on sidewalks.
for a brief moment in my mind I thought thoughts like,
“Oh! remember when you didn’t see the ice and slipped a little but caught yourself in a weird position with your arms splayed in an odd way haha! and then you looked around to...

the first 20 minutes of hook
sabastooge:
are the 20 saddest minutes in kids movie history in my opinion.
ditto.
just got back from a 4 person surrogate-family potluck-christmas (which was fucking amazing but I digress) at which there were 2 cameras and 3 iPhones present but amazingly absolutely no documentation whatsoever.
not anything.
the only evidence it happened at all is my full stomach and maybe some vague text messages from the planning stage.
I love living in the 21st century.

– Kate Christensen has started a food blog. Kate’s my favorite fiction writer on the subject of food (and there isn’t a second place in that race), so I’m excited to read some of her non-fiction on the subject. (via thefeeling)
tonight I made candied yams and cheese sauce to fullfil a promise to a friend. then I spent the entire party playing card games away from the guests and trying not to flirt with a straight guy.
It was real hard.
like, I’m still not over him.
I got to be Uber-Bookseller today & I get to do it all again tomorrow and that excites me.

I just read 3 chapters on trying to get a bitch laid.
that bitch being a dog named Tulip. 3 chapters on how frustrating it is to get a proper mate for your dog, a particularly particular dog, complete with words like “bitch” and “tumescence” and “mount”.
I really never saw this coming. I never thought this would be a thing I do during my life.

Surprisingly, I am less sure than this guy on...
towirr:
A gentleman named Farhad Manjoo just posted a proudly contrarian article on Slate explaining why independent bookstores are not only irrelevent but maybe even harmful. I work at an independent bookstore, so that’s an argument I’d be very very curious to see made well. Honestly, I know the failings of small booksellers as well as anyone, and it’d be good to see them articulated. But...

lots of thinking. lots of plotting. lots of dreaming.
not a lot of doing.
tonight John & I tried to see a pre-screening of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but the theatre had “reached [its] capacity”. the movie actually looks really good! plus is has Benedict Cumberbatch! who is awesome and etc.
I’ve also been beating myself up for days because I completely failed to take...
so I really believe he’s okay but I’m determined not to think about it.

LIKE ACTUALLY KEEP CONTROL OF MY INTELLIGENCE PLEASE THANK YOU
sometimes I make really awful decisions
like consciously choosing to be totally anti-social for a week.
at the tail end of which I am now looking at Google Maps, scanning the cities of Europe, simultaneously thinking that the world is both bigger than I can handle and smaller than I would think.
which is leading me to all sorts of thoughts and fantasies that are thrilling and depressing.
one thing holding me above the water right now...

as I went to brush my teeth tonight I found myself singing “because my body’s too bootylicious for you, babe” out loud in a voice I can only describe as a very bad imitation of a sultry black woman?
it was only then that I realized I’d been thinking/humming “I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly” repeatedly as I put clean sheets on my bed and...

Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman, reviewed at The... →
this review is amazing and makes me want to finish the book.
reading about the Occupy movement, the arrests, the destruction, the insanity of it all forces me to question the merits of peaceful, nonviolent protest. because at my core it just makes me want to rain down pain and retribution on all the crooked cops and bankers and politicians. I’m enlightened enough to understand that this isn’t an acceptable answer nor would it ever help, but...
